Painting vs. Replacing Your Cabinets

If your cabinet boxes are solid and the layout works, painting gives you a new look for a fraction of what new cabinets cost, and without weeks of demolition. Add new handles and the change is dramatic.

Painting isn't the right fix for cabinets with water-swollen particleboard, broken frames or a layout you dislike. We'll tell you honestly at your estimate.

Why the Prep and Products Matter

Kitchen cabinets carry years of invisible grease. Painting over it is why many DIY jobs peel. We degrease every surface, scuff-sand the old finish, and apply a bonding primer that grips even slick or glossy surfaces.

For the finish we use a cabinet-grade enamel, not wall paint. It cures hard and smooth, resists chips and wipes clean. Wall paint stays soft and can feel tacky on cabinet doors.

Popular Cabinet Colors

Clean whites and warm off-whites are timeless, and soft greige suits almost any countertop. For something bolder, deep navy and slate blue look great on an island or lower cabinets paired with lighter uppers. Two-tone kitchens are one of our most-requested looks.

Your Kitchen During the Project

Doors and drawers are removed and labeled so each one goes back exactly where it came from. You can still use your kitchen during the project. We'll go over which areas to avoid each day. The finish is dry to the touch quickly but keeps hardening for a few weeks, so treat it gently at first.

Cabinet Painting Questions

Something else on your mind? Call us at (501) 307-7730.

How long does cabinet painting take?

Most kitchens take about a week, because each coat needs time to dry before the next. Bathroom vanities are much quicker.

Will painted cabinets chip?

Cabinet-grade enamel over a bonding primer is very durable. Avoid harsh scrubbing for the first few weeks while it fully hardens.

Can you paint oak cabinets and hide the grain?

Yes. Painting alone will still show some grain texture. If you want a perfectly smooth look, we can add a grain-filling step.

Can you paint laminate or thermofoil cabinets?

Many laminate cabinets paint well with the right primer. Peeling thermofoil usually needs to be replaced. We'll check yours at the estimate.

Do you paint the inside of cabinets?

Only if you want us to. Most customers paint the outside, doors and drawer fronts, and leave interiors as they are.

Can I still use my kitchen?

Yes. We work in sections, and you can use your kitchen each evening. We'll tell you which areas to avoid each day.
